Planning and pricing

When you have a home surrounded by healthy trees you have a more valuable property than those who let them go, so they are well worth looking after. A bit of pruning is one job and taking down a large hardwood near the house is quite another, so the ranges below are a starting point and not a quote.

Workers trimming branches near a house

In Maryland we are proud of our vast quantities of trees, a vital part of the ecology and aesthetic of our beautiful state. Tree services and tree removal are an ongoing part of landscaping and must be handled by knowledgeable experts. Trees don’t require constant maintenance; but complete neglect, or worse — a botched tree trimming job — can take years off the life of your tree. With just a small amount of attention, your trees will last a lifetime.  As experienced arborist and tree trimming experts, we can inspect and save your trees, know how to trim them for healthiest longest life, and remove them safely when necessary without damaging surrounding property.

We also can help with limb removal after winter storms, or when limbs have potential to cause damage to your property or your neighbor’s. Whether it is skilled climbers for branch and pruning work, or full scale large job crane operators for tree removal, our tree experts are prepared and will protect your property as if it is their own.

Tree Trimming and Pruning

Healthy maintenance of tree limbs and branches involves smart trimming. A trimmed tree is not only more healthy and thriving, it just looks gorgeous once it is cleaned up and shaped. Dead limbs can be removed while saving the tree. Limbs growing over other’s properties, limbs brushing against your roof are just a couple of issues that require a significant trimming.

Care should be given not to over trim. Not only is the end result bare and ugly, removing too much of a tree at once can be harmful. Our tree trimming specialists are aware of the right way to prune a tree for both the health of the tree, and the natural beauty of your yard.

Tree Removal & Stump Grinding

Trees growing too close to your property, or diseased or dead trees will need to be removed. Allowing the tree to remain too long can even cause issues with your foundation or basement from unhealthy roots. In cases where a tree should be removed, our tree removal specialists can safely and efficiently do the job. Experience is a must, and only use a licensed and insured tree removal specialist with the right equipment. Stump grinding is the process of using special equipment to grind down and remove an unsightly stump.

Storm Cleanup

Our winter and thunderstorms can wreak havoc on trees and limbs. Never attempt to move a limb or tree that has fallen near or on a power line. Bamboo in particular in our area can occasionally collapse during snowstorms, leaving you with a big mess. Large oak limbs need to be cut up and hauled away. Let us help clean up after an already devastating storm, taking the worry away and leaving you with a clean yard.

Whose tree and whose rules?

Work on a roadside tree in a public right-of-way is different from work on a private tree: Maryland’s roadside-tree permit is one place to start. Rockville also lists significant-tree and development-related review. In Garrett Park, town rules and historic status can matter; see our Garrett Park notes. Confirm ownership, location and project scope before making a removal decision.

Care that respects the tree

Trees don't require constant attention, but complete neglect, or worse a botched trimming job, can take years off the life of an otherwise healthy tree. Good tree work is as much about knowing what not to cut as what to cut, and it is the kind of thing that ought to be handled by people who do it for a living.

What we handle

  • Pruning and crown work to keep trees healthy and shapely
  • Removal of dead, dying, hazardous or badly placed trees
  • Stump grinding to reclaim the space cleanly
  • Storm damage cleanup and hazard reduction
  • Honest assessment of what a tree needs — including when it needs nothing

What moves the price on tree work

One of the most important things to weigh with tree work is size, a big hardwood is a whole different job from a little ornamental. But the access and the risk matter just as much, a tree hanging over the house or the power lines has to come down in careful roped sections, and that care is exactly what you are paying for.

Good to Know

Tree Services — FAQ

For most of the trees around here late winter, while they are dormant, is the ideal time, much as the fall is the best time to plant them. It is easier on the tree and easier for us to read its structure with the leaves gone, though anything dead or broken or genuinely hazardous should come off whenever you first notice it.

Another wise move would be to have us take a look, since the price leans so heavily on the size of the tree and where it happens to be standing. A modest tree in the open is one thing while a large hardwood over the house or near the power lines is quite another, because it has to come down in careful roped sections a bit at a time.

We can, and most folks want it done, because a ground-out stump lets you put lawn or a new bed right back over where the tree used to stand. We will quote the removal and the grinding together so you can see both and decide how far you want to take it.

Often it can, and honestly we would much rather save a good tree than take it down. Trees are a wonderful investment in your landscape, so sometimes the right bit of pruning buys many more healthy years, and we will always tell you honestly when a tree can be kept and when it has truly become a hazard.

First check where the tree stands and which authority covers the address. Work on a roadside tree in the public right-of-way follows a different process from work on a privately owned tree. Rockville also has its own significant-tree and development-related rules. Historic designations and an association's rules may add another check. The answer depends on the tree and the parcel, not just the mailing city.
